Sample Aptitude Questions of Nutanix

Aptitude tests form a critical component the placement process at many corporate companies. Currently, Nutanix does not conduct aptitude test but many include it in future. Aptitude tests are standardized tests that designed to assess a candidate’s capabilities in performing a particular task and response to different situations. Quantitative aptitude checks problem solving ability of the candidates, their basic mathematical skills and comfort with data crunching. To score well, a candidate should focus on speedy calculations, sound fundamentals and strong analytical skills through practice.
You can practice the below given sample questions to practise for Nutanix’s aptitude questions:
  1. Three friends Anita, Bindu and Champa divide Rs. 1,105 amongst them in such a way that if Rs. 10, Rs. 20 and Rs. 15 are removed from the sums that Anita, Bindu and Champa received respectively, then the share of the sums that they got will be in the ratio of 11 : 18 : 24. How much did Champa receive?
    1. Rs. 495
    2. Rs. 510
    3. Rs. 480
    4. Rs. 375
    Answer: Option 1
After the shares of Anita , Bimdu and Champa by
    Rs 10, Rs 20 and Rs 15 respectively the remaining total = (1105 – 45) = Rs 1060.
    Of this Champa’s share = Rs 24/53 X 1060 = Rs 480. So the original share of Champa = Rs 495
  1. A can hit a target 4 times in 5 shots, B hits 3 times in 4 shots, and C hits twice in 3 shots. They fire together. Find the probability that at least two shots hit the target.
    1. 13/30
    2. 5/6
    3. 11/40
    4. None of these
    Answer: Option 2
    Required probability =
    (4/5 X 3/4 X 1/3) + (4/5 X 1/4 X 2/3) + (1/5 X 3/4 X 2/3) + (4/5 X 3/4 X 2/3) = 5/6
  2. A machine is sold at a profit of 10 %. Had it been sold for Rs. 40 less, there would havebeen a loss of 10 %. What was the cost price of the machine?
    1. Rs. 175
    2. Rs. 200
    3. Rs. 225
    4. None of The above
    Answer: Option 2
    Let the CP = Rs.100.
To gain a profit of 10%, SP should be Rs.110.
And for the loss of 10%,SP should be Rs.90
When machine is sold for Rs. 20 less, CP = Rs.100.
When machine is sold for Rs. 40 less, CP would be equal to Rs.200.
  1. Mansi started a business investing Rs.42,000/-. After 7 months Kamya joined her with a capital of Rs. 50,000/-. At the end of the year the total profit was Rs. 30,160/-. What is the share of profit of Kamya?
    1. Rs. 10,000/-
    2. Rs. 20,160/-
    3. Rs. 10,160/-
    4. Rs. 8,000/-
    Answer: Option 1
    Mansi = Rs. 42000 for 12 months.
    So total capital = 12 × 42000
    Kamya = Rs. 50000 for 5 months.
    So total capital = Rs 50000× 5.
    Profit ratio = 42000×12 : 50000× 5 = 252 : 125.
    Total profit = Rs 30160
    Kamya’s profit = 125/377 X 30160 = 125 X 80 = 10,000.
  2. The incomes of Chanda and Kim are in the ratio 9 : 4 and their expenditures are in the ratio 7 : 3. If each saves Rs. 2,000, then Chanda's expenditure is
    1. Rs. 60, 000
    2. Rs. 80, 000
    3. Rs. 70, 000
    4. None of these
    Answer: Option 3
Let the incomes of Chanda and Kim be 9x and 4x and expenditures be 7y and 3y respectively.
Since Saving = Income – Expenditure, we get
    9x – 7y = 2000 and 4x – 3y = 2000,
    Solving, we get, x = 8000 and y = 10000.
    So Chanda’s expenditure =7y = 7× 10000
    = Rs. 70,000.
  1. X and Y entered into partnership with Rs. 700 and Rs. 600 respectively. After 3 months X withdrew 2/7 of his stock but after 3 months, he puts back 3/5 of what he had withdrawn. The profit at the end of the year is Rs. 726. How much of this should X receive?
    1. Rs. 336
    2. Rs. 366
    3. Rs. 633
    4. Rs. 663
    Answer: Option 2
Ratio of profit of X :Y
    = 700 × 3 + 500 × 3 + 620 × 6 : 600 × 12
    → 7320 : 7200 = 61 : 60.
    Total profit = Rs. 726.
    So X will receive = 61/121 X 726 = Rs. 366
  2. In measuring the sides of a rectangular plot, one side is taken 5 % in excess and the other 6 % in deficit. The error percent in area calculated, of the plot, is
    1. 1%
    2. 1.3%
    3. 1.5%
    4. 3%
  3. A man swimming in a stream which flows at 1(1/2) km/hr finds that in a given time he can swim twice as far with the stream as he can against it. At what rate does he swim?
    1. 4(1/2) km/hr
    2. 5(1/2) km/hr
    3. 7(1/2) km/hr
    4. None of these
    Answer: Option 1
    Let v be the speed of man and u be the speed of stream. Clearly v + u = 2(v – u) , on putting the values we get v = 3u = 9/2
  4. Two cyclists start on a circular track from a given point but in opposite directions with speeds of 7 m/sec and 8 m/sec respectively. If the circumference of the circle is 300 metres, after what time will they meet at the starting point for the first time?
    1. 20 sec
    2. 100 sec
    3. 300 sec
    4. 200 sec
    Answer: Option 3
    S = D/T
The times taken by the two cyclists to reach the starting point are 300/7 seconds and 300/8 seconds respectively.
So, they will meet at the starting point after LCM(300/7, 300/8)
    = 300 seconds.
  5. The odds that A agrees with the truth are 3 : 2 and the odds that ‘B’ agrees with the truth are 5 : 3. In what percent of cases are they likely to agree with each other on an identical point?
    1. 47.5 %
    2. 37.5 %
    3. 63.5 %
    4. None of these
    Answer: Option 4
Probability that A speaks the truth = 3/5
Probability that A does not speak the truth = 2/5
Probability that B speaks the truth = 5/8
Probability that B does not speak the truth = 3/8
Cases that are likely to agree each other on identical pt =
    3/5 X 5/8 X 2/5 X 3/8 = 21/40 = 52.5%
    Hence none of these.
