  1. Rs. 5,887 is divided between Shyam and Ram, such that Shyam’s share at the end of 9 years is equal to Ram’s share at the end of 11 years, compounded annually at the rate of 5%. The share of Shyam is
    1. Rs. 2,088
    2. Rs. 2,000
    3. Rs. 3,087
    4. None of these
    Answer: Option 3
    Let Shyam’s share = Rs s and Ram’s share
    be Rs r.
    So, s×(1.05)9 = r×(1.05)11→ s/r = 441/400
    →s = Rs 441/841 X Rs 5887 = Rs 3087.
  1. A money lender lent out Rs. 25,000 in two parts, one at 8 % and the other at 9 %. If the total annual income on the amount is Rs. 2,187.50, the money lent at 8 % is
    1. Rs. 12,500
    2. Rs. 6,250
    3. Rs. 10,000
    4. Rs. 18,750
    Answer: Option 2
Let the money lent at 8 % be Rs x, so the money lent at 9% = Rs (25000 – x)
    So, x X 8/100 + (25000-x) X 9 / 100 = 2187.5,
    Solving we get, x = Rs 6250.
  2. A man left one-half of his property for his wife, one-third for his son and the remainder for his daughter. If the daughter’s share was worth Rs. 45,000, how much money did the man leave?
    1. Rs. 245,000
    2. Rs. 260,000
    3. Rs. 270,000
    4. Rs. 275,000
    Answer: Option 3
Let total property of man be Rs. x, so share of wife = 1/2 x and son = 1/3 x.
    c = 1/2 x + 1/3 x = 5/6 x.
    Remaining 1/2 x = 45,000,
So total property = Rs. 270,000.
  1. Sudhir invested Rs. 16,000 in a scheme which earned him simple interest @15 p.c.p.a. After two years he withdrew the principal amount plus interest and invested the entire amount in another scheme for two years, which earned him compound interest @ 12 p.c.p.a. What would be the total interest earned by Sudhir at the end of 4 year?
    1. Rs. 9,792
    2. Rs. 10,152.11
    3. Rs. 9,012.14
    4. None of these
    Answer: Option 4
    SI = 16000 X 15 / 100 = Rs. 2400.
    Interest for 2 yrs = Rs. 4800.
    Total Amount = 16000 + 4800 = Rs. 20800.
    Now, A= 20800 (1+12/100) Rs. 26092, so Interest = (26092 – 20800)
    = Rs. 5292
    Tot. Interest = 4800 + 5292 ≈ Rs. 10092.
  2. A man ordered 4 pairs of black socks and some pairs of brown socks. The price of a black pair is double that of a brown pair. While preparing the bill, the clerk did a mistake and interchanged the number of black and brown pairs. This increased the bill by 50 %. The ratio of the number of black and brown pairs of socks in the original order was
    1. 4 : 1
    2. 2 : 1
    3. 1 : 4
    4. 1 : 2
    Answer: Option 3
Let the number of pairs of brown socks be n.
Let the price of each pair of black socks be Rs x and that of brown socks be Rs y. Given x = 2y.
    Also, 4y + nx = 1.5(4x + ny).
    Putting x = 2y, we get n = 16.
So the required ratio of number of black socks to the number of brown socks = 1 : 4.
  1. If 5 students utilize 18 pencils in 9 days, how long at the same rate will 66 pencils last for 15 students?
    1. 10 days
    2. 12 days
    3. 11 days
    4. None of these
    Answer: Option 3
    Required number of days = 9 X 5/15 X 66/18 = 11 days
  2. A portion of a 30 m long tree is broken by a tornado and the top strikes the ground making an angle of 30° with the ground level. The height of the point where the tree is broken is equal to
    1. 30/√3 m
    2. 10 m
    3. 30√3 m
    4. 60 m
    Answer: Option 2

The height of the tree = 30m.
    So, x + y = 30m
    Also sin30 1/2 = x/y x = 2y.
    So 3x = 30,
    x = 10 m.
  3. Two gallons of a mixture of spirit and water contain 12 % of water. They are added to 3 gallons of another mixture, containing 7 % of water and half a gallon of water is then' added to the whole. Find the percentage of water in the resulting mixture.
    1. 17(3/11)%
    2. 16(12/11)%
    3. 14(1/11)%
    4. None of these
    Answer: Option 1
    Let the water is 12 % = 12 units in 1 gallon, so in 2 gallons = 24 units.
In another mixture water is 7 units in 1 gallon, so in 3 gallons it is 21 units water and half gallon water means 50 units water is also added.
    So total water is 24 + 21 + 50 = 95,
    % age = 95/550 X 100 = 17(3/11)%.
  4. Three pipes A, B and C can fill a tank in 20 minutes, 10 minutes and 30 minutes respectively. When the tank is empty, all the three pipes are opened. A, B, C discharge chemical solutions ‘X’, ‘Y’, ‘Z’ respectively. The proportion of solution ‘Y’ in the liquid in the tank after 3 minutes is
    1. 6/11
    2. 7/11
    3. 8/11
    4. 5/11
    Answer: Option 1
    Proportion of liquid Y = 1/B / 1/A+1/B+1/C = 1/10 /1/20+1/10+1/30 = 6/11.
  5. The average sale of a car dealership was 15 cars per week. After a promotional scheme the average sale increased to 21 cars per week. The percentage increase in the sale of cars was
    1. 40%
    2. 140%
    3. 42%
    4. 39.33%
    Answer: Option 1
    % increase in sale = 21-15/15 X 100% = 40%
