1. There are three events A, B and C, only one of which must happen. The odds are 8 to 3 against A, 5 to 2 against B. Find the odds against C.
1. 43 : 34
2. 43 : 77
3. 34 : 43
4. 77 : 43

P(A) = 3/11 & P(B) = 2/7 . So probability of happening of C = 1 – ( 3/11+ 2/7) = 34/77 . So the odds against C are 43:34.
2. 1,496 cm3 of a metal is used to cast a pipe of length 28 cm. If the internal radius of the pipe is 8 cm, the outer radius of the pipe is
1. 7 cm
2. 10 cm
3. 9 cm
4. 12 cm

That will be = 22/7 x 28 x (r2- 82) = 1,496.
Now solving for 'r' we get r = 9
3. A man is standing on the 8 m long shadow of a 6 m long pole. If the length of the man’s shadow is 2.4 m, then the height of the man is
1. 1.4 m
2. 1.8 m
3. 1.6 m
4. 2.0 m

8 m shadow. Length of pole is = 6m.
2.4 m shadow will have = 6/8 x 2.4 = 1.8 m height of the man as answer.
4. In a class, there are 20 boys whose average age is decreased by 2 months, when one boy aged 18 years is replaced by a new boy. The age of the new boy is
