  1. The number that must be added to each of the numbers 8, 21, 13 and 31 to make the ratio of first two numbers equal to the ratio of last two numbers is
    1. 7
    2. 5
    3. 9
    4. None of these
    Answer: Option 2
    Checking from the options we see that if we add 5 to the given numbers we get 13, 26, 18, 36 as the new numbers, the ratio of first two is 1 : 2 which is same as the ratio of last two.
  1. The average sale of a car dealership was 15 cars per week. After a promotional scheme the average sale increased to 21 cars per week. The percentage increase in the sale of cars was
    1. 40 %
    2. 140 %
    3. 42 %
    4. 39.33 %
    Answer: Option 1
    % increase in sale = 21-15/15 X 100% = 40%
  2. What percent selling price would be 34 % of cost price if gross profit is 26 % of the selling price?
    1. 17.16 %
    2. 74 %
    3. 25.16 %
    4. 88.40 %
    Answer: Option 3
    Given: X% of SP = 34% of CP X(SP) = 34(CP)
    Also P = 26% of SP SP – CP = 0.26SP
    CP = 0.74 SP.
    Substituting this in the above equation, we get
    SP = 25.16%
  1. The effective annual rate of interest corresponding to a nominal rate of 8 % per annum payable half yearly is
    1. 8 %
    2. 8.01 %
    3. 8.13 %
    4. 8.16 %
    Answer: Option 4
    Let the principal = Rs 100.
    Rate of interest = 8% p.a compounded half yearly. Time = 1 year.
    So net compound interest paid = Rs 8.16.
    So the effective rate of interest = 8.16% p.a.
  2. In a class of 25 students with Roll Nos. 1 to 25, a student is picked up at random to answer a question. Find the probability that the roll number of the selected student is either a multiple of 5 or 7.
    1. 6/25
    2. 4/25
    3. 8/25
    4. 7/25
    Answer: Option 3
    P(multiple of 5) = 5/25
    P(multiple of 7) = 3/25
    P(multiple of 5 or 7) = 5/25 + 3/25 = 8/25
  1. The speed of a boat in still water is 4 km/hr and the speed of current is 2 km/hr. If the time taken to reach a certain distance upstream is 9 hours, find the time it will take to go to same distance downstream.
    1. 2 hrs
    2. 2.5 hrs
    3. 3.5 hrs
    4. 3 hrs
    Answer: Option 4
    S=D/T
    Upstream Speed = 4 – 2 = 2 km/h,
    Downstream Speed = 4 + 2 = 6 km/h
    D = S × T, so D = 2 × 9 = 18 km,
    T = D/S So T = 18/6 = 3 hrs.
  2. At the start of a seminar, the ratio of the number of male participants to the number of female participants was 3 : 1. During the tea break, 16 participants left in the same ratio (3:1) and 6 more female participants registered. The ratio of the male to the female participants became 2:1. The total number of participants at the start of the seminar was
    1. 64
    2. 48
    3. 54
    4. 72
    Answer: Option 1
    Going by options, if we take 1st option i.e. 64, so male participants = 48 and female participants = 16. If 16 participants left, it means 12 male participants and 4 female participants left.
    As 6 more female participants joined, so total female participants = 16 – 4 + 6 = 18.
    Number of male participants now = 48 – 12 = 36.
    So ratio = 2 : 1.
  3. The number of triangles formed by the 11 points, out of which 5 are collinear in a plane is
    1. 165
    2. 150
    3. 155
    4. None of these
    Answer: Option 3
    Total number of triangles = 11C3 – 5C3 = 155.
  4. If a bucket is 80% full, then it contains 2 litres more water than when it is 66(2/3)% full. What is the capacity of the bucket?
    1. 10 litres
    2. 15 litres
    3. 16(2/3) litres
    4. 20 litres
    Answer: Option 2
    Checking from the options, if the capacity of the bucket is 15 liters, then
    80% = 4/5 X 15 = 12 and 66(2/3)% = 2/3 X 15 = 10.
    Clearly 12 is 2 more than 10.
  5. Two gallons of a mixture of spirit and water contain 12 % of water. They are added to 3 gallons of another mixture, containing 7 % of water and half a gallon of water is then' added to the whole. Find the percentage of water in the resulting mixture.
    1. 17(3/11)%
    2. 16(12/11)%
    3. 14(1/11)%
    4. None of these
